The 1984-1985 Corvette used an additional seal that was placed in the rear spindle knuckle to keep dirt, grit, and water out and off of the bearing/seal assembly. The seal fits in the spindle knuckle and the yoke is machined in the same manner whether you have a 1984 or 1996 suspension assembly. There is less chance of water or dirt entering the area between the spindle bearing yoke splines and the bearings sealarea.
